The brand new album by Grammy nominated artists Guapdad 4000 and !llmind, wrote about growing up in West Oakland with his Grandma (Lola). In the fall of 2019, Guapdad 4000’s family lost the West Oakland home where he was raised. The timing was crushing. “The lost home is depicted as endangered on the cover of 1176: as Guapdad and a woman look at the smoke-tinted sky, fireballs rain down and an inferno looms behind the house. 1176, titled after the home’s address, is ostensibly a chronicle of lost innocence, but it rarely taps into this backstory or pushes Guapdad in new directions.” – Pitchfork
The album does not reflect Guap’s previous projects, but more so as a reintroduction into who Guapdad 4000 is as an artist. As part of the album release, the music video for the lead single “Chicken Adobo” drops today as well in conjunction with Guapdad’s Lola Appreciation Day. From start to finish, 1176 is a must listen and should be on repeat all year. Listen to 1176 below.
